Let's Celebrate!! Life, Projects, and a 500th Post Giveaway!

Hello! Hello!!  Oh my word has it been a while since I blogged.  Its amazing how time flies in a blink and life consumes you.  Thankfully it hasn't been all busted pipes and frigid temps this time around but rather baby planning has sucked up lots of my moments!!  Now before you go getting ideas in your head thinking I'm about to blow up with a big belly and get crazy cravings - ha! - let me clarify.  This is the kind of baby we're expecting:

Yep a little Nigerian Dwarf doeling named Twilight.  Isn't she darling??  Oh yeah and she'll have playmates too!

This cutie lil' wiggle worm yet to be named and

This little cuddle bug we think will be named Lucy Liu.  I got to bottle feed this sweetie pie when we visited her and it was like the best thing eva' I tell you!  So amazing how quickly she sucked her portion right on down then licked her little lips so satisfied.  Adorable I tell ya'.

So yeah.  Beyond making sure our kennels were very much cared for over the tough winter we had I was in full preparation/learning mode for my little dairy goats.  We have plans to raise them up to become good lil' milkers and there is lots to do to get ready for them to arrive thus my absence, so please forgive me.  I still managed to create amongst all this though and therefore have oodles to start sharing again with you!  Hopefully I can be better at that. ;)

This Celebrate card is the perfect choice to kick things off with I think.  First of all it was made for my newest Design Team - Turtle Soup - a fabulous community of scrappy peeps where challenges, sketches, conversation, and friendship is shared.  Second, it has a ton of my fav ScrapFX products on it.  I love how easily a card can come together with their chippies and stencils.

I have to give props to my girl Luckie on the inspiration for the background.  She always is so brilliant with using her stencils so I had to give her style a whirl in my own way.  To create this background I outlined the ScrapFX Numbers Collage Stencil (2014020) with my Micron pen on my patterned paper.  Next I colored in portions of the numbers with my NeoColorsII.  To blend down the colors I used a waterbrush until I was satisfied with the look.  It was as simple as that.  I think the only thing I may do different next time is let the colors bleed out of the shapes a bit more to give it more loose watercolor type look (Luckie does this look brilliantly - check her out!!), but other than that I like it.

To keep the celebration going since this is my 500th post - geesh if I actually blogged more I could have surpassed this long ago LOL - I'd like to have a giveaway!!

A while back I was asked and given the amazing opportunity to read and review the book Gilt Trip by Laura Childs.  As I've read and reviewed a couple of her books before I leaped at the chance to do so again!  Here's a little snippet about the book:

"Louisiana businessman Jerry Earl Leland served only a fraction of his five-year sentence for white-collar crime, thanks to some political connections and a few greased palms. But he won’t have long to enjoy his freedom… After Jerry Earl’s early release, his wife, Margo—a much-married Garden District doyenne—throws an extravagant Get Out of Jail Free Party, complete with a Zydeco band, champagne ice luge, and waiters in ties and tails. The guest list includes many prominent New Orleans socialites, as well as scrapbook shop owner Carmela Bertrand and her best friend, Ava Gruiex. But sometime during the swirl of partying and drinking, Jerry Earl is brutally murdered—then stuffed inside a clothes dryer.
Carmela has earned a reputation around town for solving murders, and when the grieving widow turns to her for help, she can’t say no. But Jerry Earl took a lot of people to the cleaners with his underhanded business tactics, so Carmela’s going to be hard-pressed to identify which of his enemies was steamed enough to kill him. As she sorts through Jerry Earl’s dirty laundry, she needs to collar the killer before another victim is set to tumble dry…"

Good stuff, right??  I must admit I'm a bookworm at heart.  I love books but here is the thing - once I start I either really get in to a book or I don't at all and toss it aside.  These scrapbooking mystery books are ones I CANNOT put down!!  I don't know how I was never aware of them to begin with but all I know is I'm hooked on the adventures of Carmela and Ava.

At the heart of this book is the mystery to be solved.  It will surely keep you on your toes as you try to put the pieces together along with Carmela and her best friend Ava.  One minute you think you have it all figured out and then the next something else pops up to change your mind and keep you turning pages.  Then there is the whole scrapbooking element.  Carmela is a scrapbooking shop owner and while she has become known for her murder mystery solving skills on the side she still has to work for living.  As a reader, you're invited in to her shop and see her work day unfold.  She holds classes, stocks inventory, shares tips, etc.  These tips are then passed on to the reader.  Carmela holds a passion for scrapbooking and papercrafting as much as we all do making her a character I could easily relate to and see myself going to if she owned a real shop.

So I have two signed copies of this book up for grabs.  If you'd like one of them just leave me a comment and I'll post winners on Monday to this thread.

Take care and have great days!!

Its February - Happy New Year!

Happy New Year??! Yikes, yes I know its been a bit but January was a wee bit rough round here, as it was for many peeps.

The bitter, frigid weather definitely took its toll and gave us plenty of work to do keeping up with our kennel to ensure the dogs were always safe and comfy cozy.  And just in case you can't tell that temp reads -22 which was without windchill. Blah - so done with winter here!

There has been lots of this too - plenty of frozen and bursting pipes.  Nothing like hearing a waterfall letting loose in your wall in the middle of the day!  Haha - I joke - but I was freaking my beak at the time for real.  All I could think of was our well running dry.  A little over dramatic am I? Perhaps, but it was bad.  Hubs had to leave work and make the hour drive home since I couldn't get the frozen shut off valve to budge. Sigh.

I've learned to Embrace the Moment.  I've been creating in amongst all this - but blogging and most social media has just eluded me.  A lot of times things have either been running slower than molasses or not at all due to high winds.  Its okay.....

Embrace the Moment.  This tag is one of three I created with some inspirational sayings on them featuring ScrapFX chipboard, stamps, and stencils.  I'll share the rest soon.  The thought is to set these free with some happy mail - so glad it looks as if that can finally happen this month.

Also on the tag front is the little mini I created for a Guest Spot on the Scrapbook Creations Magazine Blog.  You can find Part 1 of my posting here and Part 2 of my posting here.  Part 3 will be featured next week Wednesday.  Super thrilled to be over there with such outstanding talent.  I'd love for you to pop on over if you feel so inclined.

Thank you so much for visiting today!  I have indeed missed blogging and look forward to sharing oodles of things over this coming year with you.

Take good care!!

Tutorial for Thursday - Project Life Insert Card

One of my favorite things about Project Life is how you can truly customize it.  I've been getting more and more in to this aspect as I've plugged along and ScrapFX has really helped my journey with all the fabulous mini chippies they've come out with, their fun stencils and stamps, and the best part - the offering of super durable project life size cards that hold up to mediums fantabulously!!

This is the insert I'll be showing you how to create today.  I was prompted to create this after seeing the wonderful shots of my son from his senior photo session.  We have so many great photos I know I'll be adding some to my album and I want to be prepared with some inserts for when I do!  Of course this can really be suited for so many things though, don't you think?  Lets get started.

Step One: Begin by covering the Kraft Card, large (2013335 KL) with gesso.  Once that is dry completely, color the card with mists.  I used two colors and added some water to allow for the colors to run and blend a bit.  Note: If you are going to use water to blend colors make sure they will not turn in to a muddy mess.  For this background I wasn’t overly concerned with darker colors occurring as I wanted a grungy look, but for other projects I’d take a bit more caution.

Set this aside to dry or you can use your heat gun. Note: If you use your heat gun, some warping of the card will occur.  It can be straightened out but less will happen if you let it air dry.

Step Two: Take a background stamp and randomly apply it to the dried background.  Use your judgement on what looks good and try to create some balance to this.  You don’t want to over do it though, leave some space open.

Step Three: Use some gesso and water on your fingertip to lighten up the area you are going to get ready to stamp on.  Do this by gently smudging the gesso around.  It will pick up the colors of mist and create the smoky effect you see underneath the stamped area in the above image.

Ink up the Cogs Stamp (2013284) with VersaMark ink and stamp in across the corner of the card.  Pour gold embossing powder over it.  Heat set.  Note: Don’t be bothered if some embossing powder gets on other areas of the card.  This will only add to the texture and grungy overall look.

Step Four: Apply Rub n’ Buff over the stamped area to tone down the brightness of the embossing and give it a more aged, grungy look.  If you don’t have Rub n’ Buff you could use inks.  Apply this randomly on a few other sections of the card also.

Step Five:  Color cheesecloth (you can use gauze) with some mist and apply to card.  Alter up a Vintage Plane (2013288) by outlining it with pen and adding some Distress Stickles to it.  Adhere over top of cheesecloth with twine underneath.  Draw a line of glue in pattern you desire twine to be in.  Adhere twine to glue line. Add text and outline with a pen.

This card would look great as is in a journal, as the cover of a mini, or just by itself as a tag of sorts don’t you think?

Here are a couple pages from my album where I've created custom inserts or portions of pockets to make my PL album more my own.  Like I've said in the past I love what I see in kits but I don't really have the budget to get in to them.  I have bought some actual journal inserts and what not, but I find myself reaching for them more for my cards and LOs than for my PL album.

Here you can see one of the inserts actually looks somewhat similar to the one created above.  Its so simple to use quick techniques and make something that looks unique, not to mention it matched my photo. ;)

Here the long portion of the insert was created by me.  I used stencils, paste, misting, NeoColors, and then added embellishments and a stamped sentiment over the top.  The photos were spruced up with phone apps and then printed out - such fun this adds I think.

Stay tuned to the ScrapFX toward the end of the month where I'll be sharing my PL type take on a December album and how I'm gearing up!!  I will make it this year since I'm actually planning - ha! I'm also looking forward to the New Year and starting a 2014 book - what about you??  Any plans to join in this year?

Project Life Inserts

Happy Friday Peeps!  Its been a bit since I've shared any Project Life haps here since I took a kind of hiatus from blogging over the summer.  Life still happens though - funny how that works huh?  I've kept on and my album and ways of doing things is ever evolving.

Card created using ScrapFX Seed Stem and Field of Flowers stamps
In this post I shared a bunch of sneaks of projects relating to my recent obsession with stamping and need for finding making time to create everyday.  A lot of them were actually bits from Project Life inserts I created.  You see I've found what actually makes me the happiest about Project Life is truly bringing my own art/spin to it and treating it more as an art journal of sorts.

ScrapFX Feather Stamp

Not only do I get to have a customized look by doing this, but I find that the quotes, imagery, and colors are all more suited for what I want to express.  Rather than trying to fit my family in to a kit, I'm creating a kit that fits my family and there is truly something magical about that!

Card created using ScrapFX Feather Stamp and Random Dots Stencil
Plus there is the added bonus of artful play time!  I get to take 15-20 minutes and play with goops to create some inserts I think will suit photos I know I've taken - and yes I admit not all the inserts I create are made with certain shots in mind and that is okay too.  I have fun creating them and know that at some point I'm sure I'll use them - if not well at least I created art I enjoy for the day.  The main thing here is I'm doing something I feel is meaningful and that is what I want my album to really express - meaning.  I want the stories to be told through my pictures, journaling, and I want the 'filler' cards to be meaningful little expressions created by me too.

I'm not saying I won't ever use a store bought journal cards intended for Project Life - I have indeed purchased some - for now though they have found life on regular cards and I love the addition they add there.  I'm not knocking on people who use them either because I adore a lot of various Project Lifers styles out there believe that!  This is just me sharing what works for me and makes me happy.

To see some pages I actually photoed of September haps around here you can head on over to ScrapFX here where myself and fellow DT member Michelle have some pages posted.

If you're doing the Project Life thing I'd love for you to leave me a link so I can check out how you do your thing - like I said I admire and enjoy anyone takes on this task.  Its a true labor of love.

Until next time, take good care!!

Smitten with Stamping

Hi Sweetie Peeps!  Hope this middle of the week is bringing you joy.  In my world we're experiencing chilly temps, bouts of sunshine in between some cloudy days, and pretty much falling back in to the schedule of school/sports/etc..  There is much work to do getting stuff done around here but I was inspired by Ronda Palazzari, through Instagram, and by the new release of foam stamps by ScrapFX to make time for myself and create something every day.

As this close up says - do something.... no matter how much or how little.  Just do something.  It isn't easy to get in this habit but I'm trying my best.  I can think of a zillion other things I could/should be doing but when it comes down to it after I create I'm a better person.  I'm calmer, more grounded, and ready to tackle those zillion things.  So I guess I'm taking the time to say I'm worth it and allowing myself the sanity.  What about you?  Have you noticed this about yourself after creating?  Do you think you're worth it?  I do.  The housework will always be there, but your state of mind and being is something to care for peeps.  Real talk.

Some days I just play and art journal.  These are the new foam ScrapFX Feather Stamps - can we say smitten?  I think so.  All I did on this day was stamp, stamp, and prep a journal background.  No clue what I was going to do - just playing - and it was FUN!

And from my playtime spurs ideas - this is what I'm finding so neat - because I'm not pushing myself so hard to come up with the next big thing my brain is freely open.  I'll be honest in sharing its been a bit since I've felt this loose and carefree in my creating.  Its easy to get caught up in what might be eye catching and I felt like I was losing myself - it was almost uncomfortable to create - a struggle!  Am I the only one who has felt this?

You cannot grow without practicing.  Some things will turn out lovely, others not so much, but practicing is key to growth - making time for that practice beyond the DT pages, or challenge entries, or, or, or is even more key.  I've A LOT of disasters in a baggie that I use to hack up in to bits - haha - they are hideous as whole pieces but sometimes when cut down, punched out, they can work. ;)

A huge thing I desire to grow in and am practicing is my lettering.  I adore letters, being a former early childhood teacher and all how could I not, right? and my printing is something I'm proud of.  I worked on perfecting it for years, thanks to my third grade teacher who had the best printing eva'!!  Shout out to Mrs. Vinton wherever you are, thank you for instilling the love of outstanding printing in me.  But when it comes to other fonts and such I lack.  So I bought the book Creative Lettering - it is marvelous - and I dove in to practice.  This piece is totally inspired by Lori Vliegen of Elvie Studio.  I've longed admired her lettering and work so it was a natural draw to try my hand at her way of doing things.  I know as I go along I'll gain more of my own style and spin on things but for now I practice.  What are you wanting to learn/practicing?

Whatever it may be I say let go of your fears & soar!  You have nothing to lose but everything to gain!!

And that my dear readers is my post for you today.  Some of the above closeups are up in full on the ScrapFX blog right now and if you'd like to see them I'd love to have you visit and let me know what you think.

Thanks so very much for stopping by today, take good care!

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day!  Yes I know this is coming a day late, but for some reason my blog doesn't like when I schedule posts.  I should know this by now.  The posts either go live late or don't go live at all.  When I try to manually pub them well that is a whole different beast, haha!  Such is life but I've important and beautiful things to share so on we go...

This card is also part of the first ever ScrapFX challenge!!  To check out the details and see how you can win the chance to be featured on the ScrapFX blog see the group post here.  You'll be inspired by plenty of card creations to get your mojo flowing!!
This is the Father's Day card I created for my best friend - my hubs.  He is truly all I could ever ask for and more in a dad for my children.  He has been there through and through and ever will be.  He is a man who knows and loves the Lord, is kind, gentle, compassionate, tough when needed, hard-working, and so much more.  I'm blessed to have him in my life on the daily and so are our teens.

On this day I also wish three other amazing men in my life a Happy Father's Day, yes I said three.  I have quite the unique life story:

This man gave me life.  What a blessing and gift to be here on this Earth instead of other options that could have been chosen.  It took me a long time to find him and he has embraced me with all his heart. I am his daughter.

This man raised me up from the time I was hours old to the time I was a grown woman.  I was his adoptive daughter but never did I feel different than his own - he embraced me with all his heart. I am his daughter.

This man is my biological mom's husband.  From the time he met me he welcomed me in to his family with loving, open arms and treated me like his own - he embraced me with all his heart.  I am his daughter.

I sit and look at these pictures and think how blessed am I?  I feel so grateful knowing that each one of these men has touched my life in someway.  Some people never get the chance to have a father in their lives and I've been given the gift of three. I may not get to connect with them all the way I'd like to but again they've all touched my life, made memories in it that I will cherish forever.  For that I thank each of them.

No matter how much time passes, I'll always know they love me and I'll always love them!

Thanks for letting me share a piece of my story along with some craft creations today.  I hope your Monday is marvelous one!!

Dreaming of the Beach

Hey there!  How's your weekend going??  Its been a whirlwind of a week around here preparing for the GSDCA-WDA National competition (Schutzhund Dog Sport)(hubbie is there now competing in the tracking phase today), start of the softball season for baby girl(two scrimmages+practice this week and an all day tourney about an hour away tomorrow), and cheering on my boy at track - whew!

All this running around has left me dreaming of the summer days to come when time on the beach relaxing can be spent!  Then this thought sparked the notion in my head I'd yet to share the LO I created for the Skissedilla DT call!!!

I had a blast creating this page!! Tons of bits and pieces that have been in my stash for years were used on this page - Cosmo Cricket's Snorkel line is what I used for paper - loved this line soo much!!
I so wish my youngest was still this size!!!  I cannot believe how much she has grown in 6 years.... she is just about as tall as I am!!

I spread on some paint with a credit card and then added droplets of paint -  I loaded up a foam stamp with heavy gesso and stamped the waves - really like how this looked with no color - really subtle but still adding to the overall look and texture of the page - I need to do this more
I used a paper doily as a mask for the sun to sit on - layered a doily from The Chip Chop Shop over some mist dyed cheescloth and under a Maya Road bottle cap that was painted yellow (although you can't really teall) - and filled with sunshine!  Added layers of paper bits, photos, cheescloth, stickers, mini paper bags to finish off the page.
What are you dreaming of today?  I shouldn't complain too much - its lovely here today and I'm about to go outside to enjoy it!

Be back tomorrow with some super fun stuff for you!  Til' then have really terrific days!

Online Haps, a Few Projects, and a Bloggy Break

Hi Friends. Its been awhile. How's it going in your neck of the woods? Fall has certainly arrived around here and its cold! Totally bummin' that the transition from Fall like pleasant weather went to cold so quickly. But Mother Nature has a mind of her own so we'll go with it LOL.

Alright so let's get at the list of things from the title of this post.

Online Haps

Here are some fun things I thought I'd share so you can check them out too!

Miss Wally, owner of The Chip Chop Shop, is having a giveaway!!! You may remember my post about receiving a parcel of goodies from her shop here. Well lemme tell you I'm ready to go back and shop because I've used almost all of the items I picked up! I can't share them here just yet, but can't wait until I can. Her items add such a perfect touch to various projects. So head on over to her blog and/or shop to see what all the fuss is about!

Scrapbook News and Review has a couple new events that went live this past week. Gauche Alchemy and EK Success Halloween. You don't wanna miss the inspiration/tutorials from either as they'll be gone before you know it. So head over there to check it and be sure to leave some lovin' if you stop by.

Here's a sneak of a project I have up:

Spooky, huh? LOL

Speaking of projects, that's next on the list. Here a few past projects, all published in Scrapbook News and Review Magazine:

Hey

Lots of Crate Paper used on this along with some inking, rock candy crackle paint, and some glitter glue.

New Grade

Its sad to say my son started 10th grade this year and I'm just now sharing this card. Oh boy. I've got a lot of back projects, LOL. I used some My Mind's Eye and The Girls' Paperie (I'll miss them and can't wait to try out Authentique). Lots of layering of patterned papers, a bit of hand-stitching to secure the banner in place, and some button love.

Rippin' Good Time

This is one of my all time fav LOs showing off some Cosmo Cricket lovin'. I loved this beach line and still have some left to play with (apparently I bought a bit too much ROFL). Anyhoo, the picture, stickers, layers of paper, bellies, oh all of it came together just the way I pictured. Believe me, that doesn't happen often.

Alrighty so last on the list is a bloggy break. Yeah I think I need one. I feel like I could be doing so much more here on my blog and I want to do more. I have lots of ideas, but rarely the time to really flesh them out and make them happen. So I've decided I'm going to take some time to do so.

Throughout November I'll be here to update with events going on and hoping to participate in a month of gratitude. I have to find the blog where I saw this and go back, but I really don't need any guidelines to know I should really be making an effort to be thankful for all the wonderful things God does in my and my family's lives on a daily basis. I also know there is a Create Art Everyday for Month going on somewhere too and I'd like to get at that. I need to get back to doing a tad bit of creating just for the fun and play of it.

The last thing I'll be working on is setting up my online store....yes, an online store!! I've wanted to have one for a very long time and I feel the nudge that now is just as good a time as any. I'll be stocking my store with handmade embellishements, tags, cards, canvases, journals, and more! I do hope you'll share in the excitement with me when I open.

If you've gotten this far, first lemme say WOW! This was LONG post and I appreciate you sticking with me. I'll see you throughout November and will be working away at creating a better bloggy spot for you to visit!

Have a fantabulous Sunday and God Bless!
Scarlett

Today's the Day!

As you can see by the date of this post, I had all intentions of being timely on announcing the winner of my blog candy. Then I got a little caught up with stuff going on, sorry about that. But, today is for sure the day! I know had a few (3 to be exact) friend's comments fall off when blogger went down. No worries, I know who you are. So without anymore lolly gaggin' the winner of my blog candy is.............

Yay Angele! Please send me your info to scarlettsalamone@mac.com so I can get this out to you!

A big HUGE thank you to all my friends who stopped by and left me some lovin' and became new followers. It really makes my day seeing comments from you. I am going to look forward to doing this more often as I have plenty of things I could be sharing.

On to some other stuff......

My delightful friend Bev, honored me with an award quite some time back. I am horribly embarrassed it's taken me this long to share.

Cool award, huh? Part of receiving this award is to share 7 things about myself with you, so here goes:

1. I am a faithful woman and put all my trust in God. Without His presence in my life I would not be the person I am.

2. I have a pet rooster....yes I said pet rooster, LOL! he follows me all around my yard all whenever I am outside and is quite the handsome fellow.

3. I have been a paper fiend for as long as I can remember. Although I had no idea what scrapbooking was a kidlet, I was throwing down with the paper and art supplies.

4. I love bacon! I mean who doesn't?! But I seriously could eat a pound of it by myself in a heartbeat.

5. I am loyal and would do anything for those I love.

6. One of my biggest desires is to go to Africa on a missions trip to teach in orphanages.

7. I would someday like to start an organization for inner city kids dealing with issues of abuse, neglect, self-esteem, etc.

There you go. 7 new tidbits about me. the other part of this award is to pass it on to 15 other blogs I love. I'll be working on that part of this today and posting those soon.

In the meantime I'll end with some Scrapbook News and Review stuff.

The latest issue is available and it is amazing! There are over 500 projects in it and you are sure to find something to inspire you. Not only that, but the second part of it will be coming in just a few short weeks and you absolutely won't want to miss it. It is all tutorial based and there are soo many learning opportunities in it! I have certainly picked up some new techniques from my fellow staffers in it.

Be sure to head on over to SNR's call area. There are just a few more days to submit your fabulous projects for potential publication.

How about a project to end for today? Sounds good to me!

Blended With Love

To create this project I used a mix of October Afternoon Modern Homemaker, Thrift Shop, and Cosmo Cricket Early Bird papers along with elements from October Afternoon, The Girls' Paperie, Maya Road, and Cosmo.

I love clustering and am super pleased I found a way to use these blenders, LOL! The fresh milk bellie was created by stamping my Maya Road milk cap stamp into some heavy gesso and then painting it after it dried. Stamping into goops is a totally cool way to create your own embellishments!

Here's my journaling. I feel really blessed to have a family blended with lots of love!

Thanks for stopping by today! Hope your day is blessed with all things wonderful!
