Happy!

Greetings!  This is a late night post for me as days are busy, but it is a happy one!

First off I must share I've joined the Let's Scrap DT - Woot!

This is super exciting as back in the day it was one of my very first teams and now to be back with them is a joy.  There are oodles of changes as well.  Gone are the days of the Ning site.  While this is a bit sad, I think ultimately it is pretty cool the challenge site is now blog based - it makes it a lot easier for all of YOU to play along!  There is also a Facebook page for anyone on that social network so be sure to check us out there too!  This is where the chattiness happens. ;)

My first sketch reveal was with this team thos past Wednesday and here is what I came up with:

I've been working diligently on using my stash and I love this October Afternoon line with the Campbell Soup kid-like images so much.  I couldn't resist using them on this card.  The background here is a heat embossed resist using some of the new ScrapFX cloud stamps and NeoColors II, can you guess how much I love these stamps??! ahahaha!!

What I love about this technique is how it allowed the details of each stamp to still shine through.  Here you can see the word happy much better than in the first picture.  You'll also notice the little confetti speckles in the upper right hand cloud.  The color seeped into these areas yet resisted the clouds - love that.

Skissedilla 230 - A Dad and His Girl

Its a new month and that means a new sketch up at Skissedilla for December.  This month the lovely Laetitia gave us a cool sketch to use, check it out:

Really rather cool and funky, right?

I wasn't quite sure what I'd do with my take at first but once I slapped some paste down through my new Circles and Squares ScrapFX stencil and had my picture it all just kind of came together through some picking over of bits my stash.  

I've been waiting to scrap this photo for a couple years now and I'm so glad its finally done.  This ScrapFX wordlet was perfect for it and adding some Amy Tangerine vellum stickers as a subtitle was a fun addition to lead in to some simple and quick journaling about the day. 

I do hope you take a quick time out from your festivities this month and join us at Skissedilla to play along with the sketch.  You could get some of those Christmas past memories scrapped while you're feeling festive or get a jump start on the present ones being captured - or like me just scrap the everyday.  Regardless I'd love to see you there!!

Thankful for You

Hello!  Stopping in quick to share the first of a few cards I'm making for my daughter's softball team fundraiser basket.  They are having a raffle coming up soon and her team was assigned the basket for cooking.  To say we weren't exactly excited in understatement considering some of the other team's basket topics, but we're making the best of it!

One other mom and I decided to take over being in charge of the task and while brainstorming how to approach it I thought of the idea of making our basket Thanksgiving themed since the fundraiser will happen in the beginning of November.  My contribution will be some handmade cards and hopefully a canvas as well.  We shall see how well and quickly the creative juices flow. ;)

 This is the first card I've created and I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking with a design similar to this for at least a few more.  Not sure how many total I'll make yet.  I used a ScrapFX leaf chippie that I altered with my String Gel technique and added it on top of a watercolored base that has a bit of stenciling done with some paste.  The rest is just layers of textiles, embellishments, and paper along with a stamped sentiment.  This came together rather quickly and so I'm totally digging that.  Plus I think having something crafty in our basket will add a unique touch which I hope will draw peeps to wanting to place their tickets in the raffle for it.

Golden Skies - Skissedilla Summer Sketch

Hey Sweetie Peeps!  Its been a bit and I do apologize for that.  Right now I've got some things in the works taking up my time - very exciting, but can't share just yet - and I also am working out some ideas on how I want to change things up here.  There is so much I want to share (tutorials, AJs, tags, altered art, canvases, scrap pages, life moments, cards, PL, etc.) yet always to tend to fail/flop in doing so and my goal is for you to get so much more out of coming here. So yeah as The Brady Bunch would say, "When its time for change, you've got to rearrange...." Does anyone out there remember that song? Ha! 

For today though I'm sharing the Skissedilla Summer Sketch created by the wonder woman of sketches, Nabon.  This sketch has a longer running time than our normal weekly ones so there is plenty of time for you to join in and I do hope to see lots of you joining in!

For my take I did a little rearranging of the photos but other than that I followed along with the sketch fairly well.  Of course I had to use some summer photos and chose some from last year when we were driving home from a family outing.  The sunset was gorgeous and much to my kiddos dismay I had my hubs pull over when I noticed one of my favorite herds close to the road.  I so love cows!!!

My background is made up of some messy painting and stenciling with paste, easy peasy.  Then I layered on a piece of text paper I used for misting over.  This is one of my little tricks - I use text paper in the box I mist in then I have it for later use.  The colors blend themselves as I go along and I always have beautiful pieces at the ready.  The sun up top is a hand-carved stamp stamped on canvas with metallic paint, chipboard is ScrapFX, and the rest of the page is really put together with just bits and pieces.

Skissedilla #159 - Adventure

Hey there everybody!!!  How's your Monday?  Ours is windy, windy, windy!  I can't wait until the crops get growing around here so the fields aren't quite as open.

Well Sketch #159 is up at Skissedilla and it is a fantastic one!! - Carrin created it and I fell in love with the fact it was an 8.5 x11 sketch - that never happens - I'm always trying to downsize, LOL.

Lots of ScrapFX chippies used on this page - so much fun altering them up - I'm not going to share too many deets because I'm thinking I'll post all that juicy info on the ScrapFX blog - teehee - such a tease I am because I'm thinking you may want to know how I did some of what I did - but alas I'm going to make you wait!!!  I can tell you I used up some of my large October Afternoon Thrift Shop stash - seriously crushed on that line!

See what I mean about the sketch being super cool!!  I love the whole office/clipboard feel I got from it before starting my page - I stayed pretty true to it as well with the exception of adding a picture and bellies where the big ol' ink splat is - not that I don't love a big ol' ink splat ;0) - just felt moved to add a photo instead.

So I won't be totally sassy - there are a couple detail shots I've got to show you all!

These are hands down my new favorite go to alpha!!!  They're called Itty Bitty Bets "Groovy" (2005104) made by ScrapFX and you NEED them - seriously they are the perfect size for any project - you'll be seeing them lots more in the future from me for shiggity!

This is a shot of my hand carved stamps - the hot air balloon and hexagons are my own design! - I'm really hooked on carving and could spend a lot of time thinking up designs!!  Have you tried carving your own stamps?

I've also linked this LO up at MSW for Ann's hexagon challenge - even though the page doesn't scream hexagon - they are still there. ;0)  Speaking of MSW if you're looking to participate in the hop going on until the end of tonight you can go here.

Skissedilla #157

Hey there and happy Sunday to you all.  Its dreary and cold here - one would think I'd be bummin' about that - actually rather glad.  I've got a couple projects in the works I want to finish - plenty more I want to start.  My first box of chipboard from ScrapFX arrived!!!!! and I so cannot wait to get started playing with some of that as well.  What about you?  Any scrappy plans for the day?

This week I stuck pretty close to the sketch - rearranged my photos a bit so I could fit all 5 - I think that's probably close to a record of some sort for me since I'm typically a 1-2 photo scrapper - oh how my iPhone has changed all that!

The stamped image on my LO replaces the tractor - you can see I took inspiration from the squares for the background I created

Letters are from Crate Paper and October Afternoon - I ran the woodgrain OA letters through my Cuttlebug and embossed them with a woodgrain folder - outlined them with a Sharpie - the other letters were outlined with a white Sakura gel pen - some bits of tape, journaling, and a stamped doodled border made this little corner feel complete.  The journaling reads: its always been a struggle for me to celebrate myself.  I'm a people pleaser through and through.  At 35....

...I want more.  I want to learn how to truly embrace who I am.  I also used the quote from the book "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett to go with my pictures - although I modified it a bit - "You is Kind, Smart, Important" - I believe every girl and woman should be told this repeatedly every day - for real.  The stamped image was colored with mica powders and a waterpen - love this technique and use it most often for my stamps.

Background was created with colored gel medium rubbed through a Crafter's Workshop stencil with my finger - allowed it to dry completely then added the ink splots through another CW stencil and Tsukineko VersaColor ink - the grid paper is actual grid paper from the office supply store.

Today is a Big Day!!!

Hi Friends! I've been waiting for this day to come and now that its here I get to share some more EXCITING news....

Yours truly is now scrappin' with the Skissedilla gals as a DT member!!  The sketches these gals create are amazing I tell ya'..... and now I'll be throwing a few into the mix also!

  Today is the site's birthday ( Broggis' too!! Happy Birthday Broggis!!!) and myself, along with the two other new team members, have our first LOs up with the rest of the sweet, rockin' gals!!

Skissedilla #155

This page shows pictures of my kiddos first day of school this year - didn't go the whole first day route rather went with sharing a story about how I send a piece of my heart with them everyday - my new girlie Brit put that awesome frame around my LO - so cool, right?? - Thanks Brit!! xo

My journaling card - love those lil' tab stickers (this one is Crate Paper) - bits of Hambly overlays revealing stenciling done with Pan Pastels (<---seriously smitten with these), paint, and ink - texture paste rubbed through mesh tape with my finger - staples and stamping - the puffy sticker frames are K&Co. - changed the color of one by using VersaColor ink and then doodled with a Sharpie (the doodling was already there, just made it pop!)

My sub-title written on the photo - good shot of texture paste (<---I'll do a tutorial on how to do this soon!) - stamped and heat embossed brick - letters painted through a stencil

Lots of lovely layered bits of burlap, doily, tape, paper, button, overlays

Skissedilla #153 and a few deets from #152

Hi there and happy Friday to you.  Its a gorgeously sunny day here but freezing!  We totally got spoiled by a couple warm days and this morning it was back in the teens.  Just crazy weather this winter! 

Here to share another LO I created using a Skissedilla sketch.  I'm so glad I finally stopped stalking the blog and started playing along!

Here's this week's sketch:

Honestly I wasn't sure what to do with it at first.  I played around with picking out photos, papers, even some larger embellishments to get something going on.  Then I decided to embrace the fact I wasn't going to use 4 photos and it started coming together better.

My final outcome:

Real Good Times

I used 2 photos instead of 4 smaller ones and created a bed of papers, a bag, tags, and a doily for them to sit on.  The wagon serves as the hat from the sketch and the flags are in place of the wheat.  Using the acrylic block over the 2x2 picture really helps it stand out on the page and magnifies the image in a way - or maybe its just me LOL.  Used lots of mists, texture paste, and texture spray (yes I said spray!  More on that soon), and inks to alter up all the chipboard.

I think this birdie washi is my fav - I use it on a ton of projects.  I glittered each letter of the chipboard word and then outlined it with some black paint on a fine point brush.

See what I mean about the acrylic over the picture? Check out those spots on the chipboard piece too!  That's some of the texture spray I was talking about.  From the picture its hard to tell the splatters are raised and a bit bumpy with the slightest shimmer.  This is a new love people.  Seriously. 

My last post shared my take on Skissedilla #152 but I didn't share the sketch so you all could have a go with it yourself.   Here's that for you:

Almost everything I used on this page is from my mondo Sassafras stash.  The chipboard letters were roughed up with an emery board (seriously the best way to distress using sandpaper in my opinion - cheap too!) and then lots and lots of fussy cutting to create a layered little jungle.  Oh!  see that stamped border??  Its my own design!!  I've got lots of designs to show you over the coming days/weeks.

I'm typically not a big fan of crowns, but this page totally called for them to be used.  To alter up the chipboard pieces I heat embossed them with black UTEE and let it get kinda bubbly.  Then I pounced some gold paint over.

I {Heart} U

Evening.  Quick post tonight as its been a long day.  I wanted to share the most recent LO I made however for the MSW Sketch-A-Thon.

I started with a grid piece of patterned paper.  Have I ever told you how much I love grid paper?  I used watermark ink through a stencil and embossed the squares around the edges.  Next came a generous spraying of mist, inking through a stencil, and splatters.  I layered up all my patterned papers, bits and bobs, and declared it good.

I had to use this picture and even though its not the best one, it does show the best heart hands they made together.  You can also see how I embossed the sticker letters and added glitter to the birds.

I plan on linking this up to the Paper Issues challenge this month.  It'll be my first time playing along there.

I'm having such a great time cranking out pages and cards.  If you need something to do, you should join in.  Night.

A LO Just For Me

Hey! Hey! Hey!  It's Saturday and sunny gorgeous here, too cold, but pretty to view from inside. LOL.

I was working on some assignments this week and after I had started one I realized I'd used the picture before and abandoned the page.  I don't really like using the same pictures over and over for DT assignments... gotta keep it fresh ; ).  So after I finished off my tasks the page was staring me down and since it had a fav photo of mine on it I decided to finish it off.

 I had such a blast painting up the background and adding my favorite element - clouds - to the page.  Lots of my fav bellies tucked here and there and I was one happy scrapper.  

This page will go in my Book of Me I'm working on.  I never understood how people just LOVED their dogs so much until I had two of my own that are oh so special.  I can't explain how I feel when I hang out with them and play.  So free of worry and care.  Delightful bliss.

Friday Haps

What's shakin' blog friends? Not much here. We survived the first week back to school, have had quite a few football games to attend at the high school, and DD is at her first official dance tonight. It's amazing she actually got out the door with all the clothes changing that was going on, LOL! Oh I remember the days well.

So let's see, I just posted my second Donna Salazar class over at Scrapbook News and Review on the front page. Here's a snibble of what's in store for you:

In other scrappy news, the ABC crop is in full swing over at My Sketch World. The first week deadline is the Sunday night at midnight Eastern time. I haven't even started yet, but that's okay because this weekend is free of new challenges. Perfect time to catch up or join on in if you haven't yet.

Finally some projects to share. These are from last year toward the beginning of the school year. I don't think I've shared them here so now seemed like a good time. =)

Favorite Teacher



Lots of October Afternoon goodness on this LO. I mixed some Cherry Hill with Report card and threw in some Jillibean Bean as a background. I had a blast digging through my stash to find all sorts of school related embellies to include on this page and then I layered away.

10 Cool Things About You



This Lo is a mix of Sassafras Lass and Jillibean Soup, along with some Cosmo Cricket rub-ons and Sass chipboard. I was thrilled with how this page came together and since 2 years have passed since I did a page like this about my son, I guess I better get at it again, huh?

And since our county fair just wrapped up over Labor Day weekend, how about a set of county fair inchies to end the day with.



Very simple, but will certainly be a cute accent to a project with our fair pictures or maybe an art journal page with these on it and some journaling about the tradition we've started since moving to our town.

All of the above projects were previously published in past issues of SNR.

Finally

a post! WooHoo! My poor neglected blog. My intentions are always good, just not always seen through...wink.... So thank you for bearing with me and dropping by when you do. I have some exciting things planned ahead and I am hoping life will align to make it all happen so I can share with all of you! In the meantime, what I can share is my 2 creations for My Sketch World's July card and LO sketch.

Hug Your Kids



I really am diggin' these new papers (Odds and Ends) by Cosmo Cricket. My favorite are all the little girls and the words. The background for this ATC is a crinkled cardstock background with some Perfect Pearls dusted on. Love how the patterned paper picked up some of the texture, but not all. I put my Cuttlebug to work with some dies for the burlap and felt.

No More Waiting

I rotated the sketch to the left and love, love, love how this turned out! I really think I have finally found my mixed media mojo when it come to adding it into my LOs. I had so much fun creating this it's insane! I used lots of different manufacturer's items to create this freestyle whimsical page.
Here are some close ups:

Lots of bellies both store bought and hand made. For the tree I created the leaves with a die and then added texture paste to the chipboard trunk. I used Shimmerz on the clouds and sewing paper, and love how the twine circle on the photo turned out.


My molding paste butterfly with some glass glitter. I used a Tattered Angels glimmer screen and spread the paste through. Thought this was a fun replacement for the circle on the sketch.
