Monday Madness

So I've got the pictures all taken for the tutorial I wanted to share here. I've got to edit the pictures and get the tut written up, so hopefully I'll have a tutorial Tuesday for you tomorrow! YAY!

In the meantime, I'll share some projects published in past issues of Scrapbook News and Review Magazine.

Bless This House

This card was created and pubbed for an arrow shaped card call. I started off with an arrow base and when I saw it laying on my table pointing up I instantly thought of a house. Go figure.... I've got a slight obsession in including them in my creations. LOL

Wander ATC

This is probably one of my favorite ATCs. I created the background by painting a paper towl, then stamped here and there. I added the foil butterflies, colored with alcohol inks, and then the image transfer. To complete the gypsy feel, I made some charms and inked up a word charm from Tim Holtz.

Freshman

Wow, I can't believe how fast 2011 has gone. I made this LO last Fall to document my son starting high school. It's tough to swallow he'll be a sophomore this year! I had fun with some masking on this LO and now that I look at it a year later, I think I need to go back and hit those letters up with a black pen or some NeoColors. The tag sticking out is covered in chalkboard paint and the journaling is done in chalk that I sprayed with a fixative after. In hind sight I think I would have rather used white pen or paint. The writing would have looked nicer and I could've gotten more on it. I'm all about the journaling these days..... shocking I know! LMBO

Alright one more because I couldn't resist it.

Laundry Line

Hands down this is my favorite tag EVA'!! It was a labor of love for shiggity, but oh so worth it. The dresses are created out of polymer clay. I baled them up and then painted, stamped, and embellished them. The background is real simple, paint and some stamps/drywall tape. The grass was made out of some specialty paper. I've been really trying hard to work through my stash of things and I'm pleasantly surprised at how many uses I've found for this paper stash. I think I might punch out a butterfly (or 2 or 3 LOL) and add them to the clothespins. They look a little nekkid, don'tcha' think?

Joy by Scarlett Salamone Supplies Patterned Paper: Echo Park; Mix Media Paper: Canson; Cardstock Stickers: Echo Park; Snowflake Buttons: All Dressed Up; Pearls: Recollections; Extra Heavy Gel: Golden; Matte Gel: Liquitex; White Opaque Flakes: Golden; Light Molding Paste: Golden; Glitter: Martha Stewart; Paint: Tulip; Punches: Marvy, Martha Stewart; Tool: Crop-A-Dile: We R Memory Keppers; Other: Sequins; chipboard, trim

Step 1:



Gather supplies together.

Step 2:



Cut Mixed Media paper to 6 1/4 x 3 1/8. Adhere Mix Media paper to chipboard using Matte Gel.

Step 3:



Cover paper with a coat of gesso. Set aside to dry.

Step 4:



Punch a strip of patterned paper with border punch. This strip should be about twice as long as the width of your tag base.

Step 5:



Cut punched strip in half and adhere to top and bottom of tag base with matte gel. Set aside to dry.

Step 6:



Punch 3 circles, in varying sizes, out of patterned paper.

Step 7:



Cut circles in half and trim edges to fit onto tag, creating hills. Using Extra Heavy Gel, adhere the hills to the tag. Set aside to dry.

Tip: To achieve some dimension, vary each layer of gel's thickness. The thicker the layer of gel you apply, the longer you will need to allow time to dry.

Step 8:



Cover tag with White Opaque Flakes. I used a flat brush to apply. Set aside to dry.

Step 9:



Adhere snowman and tree to tag using Matte Gel. The thicker layer of gel you use, the more dimension you will achieve. Remember a thick layer of gel will take a longer time to dry. My layer required 24 hours to dry completely.

Step 10:



Add a thick layer of Light Molding Paste to the base of the snowman, tree, and hills with a popsicle stick or your choice of tool. To apply a dusting of molding paste to your hills and tree, use your finger to dab on. While molding paste is still wet, sprinkle some glitter on to it.

Step 11:



Adhere the last of your embellishments (bird, joy sticker, and snowflakes) to the tag using Matte Gel.

Step 12:



Use your Crop-A-Dile, or other tool, to punch a hole in center of tag at the top. Add trim.

Step 13:



Enjoy your completed tag!

Summer Tag Tutorial

Hi Everyone! Happy Wednesday to you! It was a hot one here today with lots of lovely humidity to go with... can you sense the sarcasm in that? LOL!! The good thing coming from this is I remembered I hadn't shared with you all this quick little tutorial with you yet.

Ok, moving on to the tag. Here is the tutorial:

Fly A Kite by Scarlett Salamone Supplies: Cardstock: The Paper Studio, Bazzill; Patterned Paper: October Afternoon; Stickers: October Afternoon; Embellishments: Foof-A-La, Recollections; Inks: Ranger; Tool: embossing machine: Sissix, embossing folder: Cuttlebug; scissors: EK Success; Other: glimmer mist: Tattered Angels, toothpick



Step 1: Cut cardstock to 6 1/4" x 3 1/8". Adhere patterned paper background; it is ok to not have the patterned cover the full length of the tag since you will layer other paper onto it. Cut top piece of pattered paper to 2" x 3 1/8". Fussy cut around the pattern to create an edge or use a border punch. Cut bottom piece of patterned paper to 3/4" and fringe with scissors. Use the toothpick to roll down paper. Adhere both pieces of patterned paper to tag.



Step 2: Draw clouds onto white cardstock. Place cardstock into Swiss Dot embossing folder and run through machine. Use Distress Ink in Faded Jeans to add a bit of color. Cut clouds out and then add a bit of glimmer mist in Pearl. Glue down large cloud shape and use a pop dot to place small cloud just overlapping the larger one. Tip: Use old chipboard shapes or stickers to create perfect cloud shapes.



Step 3: Cut apart sticker allowing you to use the twine instead of the sticker for a string. This will also help you place the full sticker more completely on the tag. Tip: Use baby powder on the back of the sticker to take away the stickiness. This will allow you to work with it easier.



Step 4: Use glue to adhere boy to tag. Use pop dots to adhere main part of kite and mini glue dots on each bow in the tail. Cover the string portion of the kite with a thin line of glue and place twine on top of it. Create a loop and bring the end of string onto thin glue line covering the string portion of the sticker in the boy's hand. Add a dressed button with dimensional glue dot to center of kite. Add pearls to center of each bow.



Step 5: Add bird sticker using pop dots ( I again used baby powder on the back of the sticker to make it more manageable) and fly a kite sticker.

I can't wait to use this one as an embellishment for a page with my DS flying a kite. I think it will make a sweet addition.

By Style: In each issue of Scrapbook News and Review Magazine, we spotlight scrapbook pages by style and genre. We’re currently looking for pages in traditional paper scrapbooking that feature a clearly defined style such as Clean and Simple, Dark and Industrial, Eclectic and Freestyle, Romance and Pretty Chic, Whimsical or Fantasy, and others just ripe for the picking. Please submit at least three to five layouts that you feel best represents your work and explain in a few brief sentences what style you feel best describes your work.

Please Note: This is for paper scrapbookers only. There is a separate call now for digital scrapbookers.

First Day of School/School Days – The first day of school and going back to school are always cause for celebration. For this call, we’re looking for school themed layouts and projects.

Sports & Action – Summer is a great time to get outside and play and this call focuses on pages that are full of action or are sports themed. The sports need not be summer related – any sport is up for consideration.

Sand & Surf – What would summer be without a little sand and playing in the water? Show us your favorite sand and surf memories!

So You Think You Know Me? – It’s an “All about Me” page with a twist. For this call, tell us what people don’t know about you that you really want them to. What hidden treasures are buried inside your heart?

Teens – Ah, what can we say? They’re a constant source of fodder for our pages. No matter the mood or the subject, whether happy, sad or just downright hilarious, we want to see your teen pages.

Using Paint on Your Pages – With any kind and in any way. We’re looking for fabulous techniques and great ways to use paint on your pages. So whatcha got?

You Go Girl – Do you have a daughter or a special girl in your life that you would like to impart some of your wisdom and appreciation for life to? For this call, we’re looking for pages that feature a letter to someone who is important to you and what your hopes and dreams are for her future.

Cards

Back to School – It’s almost time for the school bell to ring and while mom’s may love it, young ones often need encouragement. We’re looking for cards that feature a school theme, either for children or for teachers.

Colored Pencils – Cards can either be colored with regular or watercolor pencils.

Faith Full – We’re looking for cards of faith and they can be on any topic but must include things such as scripture verses and/or religious imagery.

Healing and Hope – These can be anything from Get Well to Thinking of You to I Know You Can Do It and Keep the Faith. All we ask is that you encourage and give hope.

Setting the Scene: Pool or Beach Party – Paper supplies are a great way to get a custom look for any event. This month, we’re hosting a pool or beach party theme and we’d like to see your decorations, invitations, centerpieces, banners, and party favors. Anything you would use at a pool or beach party is fair game.

Sister or Best Friend – Whether your best friend is like a sister to you or your sister is a best friend, we’re in search of cards that are made specifically for them.

Sponging – There are some wonderful looks you can get from sponging, including aging. You can use any medium such as ink, paint, pigments, etc.

Using Paint on Your Cards – Paint is the focus and you can use any type of paint and you can use it any way you like.

Stamping

Please Note: Stamping projects can include anything you stamp on, such as cards, ATCs, inchies, arches, collage, mixed media or whatever fires your imagination.

Pirates – Pirates are fun, whimsical and tickle the imagination. We want to see your pirate themed projects, so send them in, matey.

Postcards – Use your stamps to make a postcard. Sound simple? It is. Sound fun? Oh yeah!

Watermarking – Whether it be Versamark or any other type of watermark ink, we’re looking for projects that feature watermark inks and all the fabulous techniques you can do with them!

Artist Trading Cards

Stencils and Masks: It’s all about technique, baby. Our focus for this call is to show how stencils and masks – of any kind or theme – can be used on ATC’s.

Under the Sea: From fish and mermaids to ships and buried treasure, we’re up for anything under the sea.

Strut Your Stuff: Let your mind wander and create ATC’s with your own theme and muse in mind. This free-for-all category allows you to submit your lovingly made ATC’s with any topic or technique in mind.

Digital

Books -- Whether you're obsessed with the latest vampire series or stick to the classics, part of a book club or helping a young one learn to read, books say something about your personality. We want to see your digital or hybrid layouts featuring books.

Extractions -- A technique that sets the digital world apart, extractions definitely take patience and skill. Show us your mad extraction skills in action on a digital or hybrid layout!

Pirates/Skulls & Crossbones -- Ahoy mateys! Pirate symbols are perfect for that little buccaneer or sassy sweetheart. Make Jack Sparrow proud a submit some fabulous digital or hybrid layouts!

Pen Tablet Work -- Sometimes a mouse just doesn't do it - that's when we break out the pen tablet! Drawing, designing, extracting, any detail work is easier with a pen tablet. We're looking for layouts that showcase your skills with a pen tablet.

Mixed Media

Altered Board Books – Children’s board books are just the right stuff to make an altered board book. Let your imagination take flight as you alter, change up and dress up board books any size, shape or kind.

Coin Envelope Mini Album – Coin envelopes can be found at any office supply store and they’re a great way to make a mini album shine. This call can be of any theme, but it must include coin envelopes as the base of the album.

Inchies: Text – Show us how you incorporate text on your inchies. A great way to accomplish this is with magazine or newspaper captions, dictionary or book pages, stamped sentiments, and so on. Inchies can either be 1”x1” or 1.5”x1.5” or they can be twinchies at 2” x 2” square.

Tags: Surf’s Up – Tags must be size #8 or 6 1/4”x3 1/8” and feature a beach, beach party or fun in the sun theme.

Treasures of Your Heart Mini Album – What is near and dear to you? Share your simple treasures with us in a mini album of any size, shape or structure.

Please Note: All mixed media calls are for paper artists of all styles and categories including traditional paper, hybrid or digital.
